Emma Baker recently joined Tyler Grange in January 2024, bringing with her a wealth of experience from over 11 years in landscape architecture. A graduate from the University of Gloucestershire with a postgraduate degree in Landscape Architecture, Emma has a robust background in private client work, tackling projects across residential, commercial, solar and affordable housing sectors in England and Wales.
Based in Birmingham, Emma’s work is distinguished by her deep focus on landscape planning, strategic level design and a particular interest in Green Infrastructure — cultivated through more than a decade in multi-disciplinary firms. She also possesses a strong command of detailed soft landscape design, often bringing her projects to life with vibrant colour renderings.
Integrating disciplines for environmental impact
At Tyler Grange, Emma’s broad knowledge enriches her landscape projects and strengthens our team’s capabilities in project management. Her understanding of ecology, arboriculture and heritage allows her to lead projects that adopt a holistic, environmentally-led approach, benefiting clients and the broader community.
Looking forward, Emma wants to expand our influence in the affordable housing market and enhance our green infrastructure practices. She is dedicated to mentoring the next generation of landscape architects, making sure that Tyler Grange continues to lead in sustainable and community-focused design.
Tom’s diverse background gives him a unique edge as our Senior Landscape Planner at Tyler Grange. Initially an electrician, he retrained as a landscape architect, graduating in 2014. He began his career with us, spending five years at Tyler Grange before taking a detour to serve as the landscape officer for Cotswold District Council — a year-long commitment that extended to four years. Now, Tom has returned to our team, ready to pick up where he left off.
Bridging public and private expertise
Tom’s diverse background in both the public and private sectors gives him a comprehensive understanding of landscape planning’s various nuances. This experience allows him to navigate complex projects with a unique perspective that benefits our clients and enhances our project outcomes.
One of the things Tom loves most about his job is the opportunity to get out of the office and explore the UK’s vast network of footpaths. His fieldwork fuels his enjoyment for landscape planning and informs his practical approach to creating spaces that blend functionality with natural beauty.
Tom’s goal is to continue elevating Tyler Grange’s landscape planning service. He is committed to delivering high-quality, sustainable solutions that meet our clients’ needs and enhance the environments we love and interact with.
Emily Leonard comes to Tyler Grange with extensive experience in graphic design. She studied Media, Photography, Textiles, 3D Design and Computer Arts. Emily’s strengths lie in her ability to turn creative ideas into reality and push the boundaries of our graphic capabilities.
In her role as a landscape technician, Emily’s attention to detail and out-of-the-box thinking allow her to breathe life into our projects. She loves her job as a graphic designer because it lets her connect people visually, enhancing the way our projects are received and understood.
Design with purpose
Emily’s goal at Tyler Grange is twofold: to propel the company’s growth through fresh, engaging designs that resonate with our clients and to enhance our visual impact. By working closely with the team, she aims to forge strong visual narratives that not only reflect our commitment to excellence but also help to drive Tyler Grange’s success forward.
Her work makes sure every design pops with our unique style and stands out as a clear example of our commitment to excellence and innovation.
Mike has spent 13 years shaping landscapes, backed by a degree and Master’s in Landscape Architecture with Ecology from the University of Sheffield.
He’s served as a field surveyor for various ecology consultancies, helping to survey and relocate protected species. He’s also worked for multi-disciplinary firms, focusing on everything from small residential plots to major rail NSIPs (Nationally Significant Infrastructure Projects).
His passion for ecology, landscape planning and management naturally led him to work closely with Biodiversity Net Gain (BNG). Today, he brings deep expertise in BNG assessments and management plans to help clients boost the ecological value of their sites.
Expertise, collaboration and curiosity
Mike’s diverse background means he can speak the language of everyone involved in a project — from the contractor onsite to the ecologist planning habitats.
He’s keen to explore how emerging tech and AI can transform landscape planning, with ideas like interactive reports and real-time data.
One of his best field moments was stumbling upon a jet-black grass snake during a reptile translocation in Kettering. It’s the perfect snapshot of Mike: hands-on, wildlife-loving and always pushing for a positive impact.
Michael brings lots of experience working with LVAs (Landscape and Visual Appraisals), LVIAs (Landscape and Visual Impact Assessments) and EIAs (Environmental Impact Assessments) to move renewable energy projects through the planning process.
This includes conducting site visits and photography to help complete visualisations for proposed developments.
He’s excited to bring his background to Tyler Grange, where the team is both welcoming and supportive (and the coffee isn’t bad either). By applying the expertise he gained in his previous role, he aims to help fulfill each project’s unique requirements.
A thirst for progress
Michael loves the hands-on nature of landscape consultancy. He’s eager to dive into residential and commercial sectors and, in time, work towards Chartership with the Landscape Institute. For him, it’s all about continuous learning and making a meaningful impact on every project he touches.
With cutting-edge expertise and a team passionate about sustainable development, we’re here to transform your space.
