The main purpose of my role is assessing impacts to trees and green infrastructure assets on upcoming and existing development sites; whether residential, commercial, retail, or in the renewables sector. My role involves surveying trees and gauging above and below-ground impacts, deriving mitigative solutions with the ultimate aim of retaining and enhancing the existing trees present at a site.

Outside of work I volunteer for a volunteer group called ‘Friends of Barley Cop Woods’ in Lancaster which focus practical efforts on maintaining the small woodland for public safety, usage, and environmental management. Recent seasonal operations have involved removing dead ash trees that presented a risk to public safety, hazel coppicing and understory vegetation management, as well as new hedge laying and planting.
I like playing the Piano and Ping Pong, but also enjoy mountain biking, hiking in the lakes, and definitely love food (I dont get called Burger Ben for nothing!) I also enjoy enjoy gardening and playing fetch with our Cockapoo called Padstow- He likes Cornish Pasties as much as me too! I joined TG after studying for a Master’s in Ecology, Management and Restoration of the Natural Environment in Barcelona.
As an Assistant Ecologist, I undertake ecological assessments – including habitat and protected species surveys – to inform land-use change, typically requiring planning applications. The role involves consultation with clients, planners and design teams to ensure projects are in line with local and national policy and legislation, as well as devising appropriate strategies to promote a positive outcome for biodiversity.
My favourite protected species surveys are the great crested newt surveys (despite the late nights and often very early starts!)
Like most ecologists I spend a lot of time outdoors – hiking, volunteering at a botanical garden, carrying out bat box checks with my local bat group and most recently I have started caving at the weekends to help undertake hibernation roost counts!
I also play piano, go to ballet class and speak Spanish and Catalan.

BWB Consulting
To deliver ecology solutions on a range of projects from individual homeowner developments to large scale housing allocations, always balancing the needs of the client with the needs of habitats, species, and the legislation which protects them.
I am driven by a generational sense of responsibility to not only protect our environment, but also to restore natural habitats where they have become depleted, and support protected species where they are in decline. I believe that built development is necessary, and can be an opportunity to enhance biodiversity, rather than be an enemy of conservation.
Outside of work, I am a member of my local bat group, and regularly partake in citizen science activities, such as roost monitoring. I also like to keep active and love the outdoors (very handy for an ecologist), and can be found either running, hiking, cycling, or even caving during my free time.

Sainsburys.
My main purpose is to be a Project Manager and Surveyor for ecological phases of developments. I am also part of the Social team (reviewing ecological social content for our socials), Sales team (meeting with clients and stakeholders, encouraging others to engage with their clients and discussing how to get the sales strategy incorporated into the work of the wider team) and Biodiversity Net Gain (BNG) team. I am beginning to train on River MoRPh surveys so I can fully complete BNG assessments for the company.
Honesty, Kindness and Supporting Others are my personal values. In keeping with this I go into local schools (I have a lot of teacher friends) and do presentations on what careers you can have with Biology degrees outside of medicine. I didn’t know any of this until I had gone to university already and definitely would have been quicker at getting into this career if I had known at 15/16.
I love going to concerts and festivals, this year is Glastonbury so very excited for this one. Music wise I am into everything and know the words to most songs… even if I am tone deaf, if I put my music on shuffle it will go from country to drum and bass to 70s disco. I read way too much fantasy for me to be able to give recommendations to my friends who aren’t into it even though I am known as the reader of the group. I also love going on what I call hikes but are most likely just slightly longer walks to most people, even better when they are in foreign countries, my favorite is the States.

Ecus Ltd.
I am the Team and Operations Lead for the South West Ecology Team covering the Cotswolds, Bristol and Exeter. I am responsible for team management, financial analysis and reporting and I also act as Project Director on numerous projects across a range of sectors, supporting more junior staff across the business in their role as Project Managers. I am a competent and proficient ecologist with over 15 years of experience in the environmental sector and whilst I do not have a specialism as such, I excel at project management and organisation, and I also have a soft spot for great crested newts!
I am driven by wanting to do what is right for our environment and to make the world a better place for my children. I would love my little boys to grow up into a flourishing natural environment without all the worries that we have today, and I believe that we all have a part to play to make this a reality. I hope that I am contributing to this ideal through both my work and by bringing my children up to understand how important the natural environment is and how it is essential to understand, protect and appreciate it. Outside of TG, I volunteer with the Gloucestershire Maternity and Neonatal Voices Partnership – their aim is to gather and understand feedback and experiences from women, birthing people and their families who are currently or have recently used maternity, neonatal and health visiting services in Gloucestershire, something that is close to my heart having had two babies in Gloucestershire in the last four years.

To support a thriving, happy and technically excellent landscape team, driving business and ensuring clients know we are a honest and pragmatic consultancy who are also great people to work with.
I love helping people become the best version of themselves they can be, helping them to develop technically and understand our industry. Honesty is the most important of the values to me. After A levels I studied Art & Design at college before pursuing Landscape Architecture at university… before deciding instead to pursue Architecture at a different university… before realising I didn’t want to become an Architect either! I then spent three years building swimming pools, all over the country before joining TG.
My role is split into three key themes.
My role touches on all aspects of the business!
I have been part of Tyler Grange for over ten years; helping to shape what it has become. I have supported Tyler Grange through thick and thin, and the company has done the same for me. Our stories are intertwined and we continue to learn from each other and grow together. I am passionate about the hard working, wonderful, creative people that make TG what it is.
I want them to have a positive, challenging and rewarding experience for as long as we’re the right fit for each other.
Listening to each other is everything.
My values closely align with the company’s and I’m increasingly driven to explore what ‘business as a force for good’ looks like, collaborating with the B Corp and purpose driven business communities in addition to supporting charities such as Farms For City Children.
I’m obsessed with food, cooking in particular and especially for a crowd. I’m at my happiest whilst cooking over fire, music playing and surrounded by friends and family. A keen sourdough baker and occasional teacher (with a single published recipe no less!).
I love to create things with my hands, building and gardening projects occupy my mind in the wee hours.
I’m a lucky husband to Jenna and father to Eva, my mischievous little sous chef – we live in The Cotswolds and were lucky enough to build our modest house in the town we grew up in.
One day I plan to convert a camper van and spend long summers having adventures. P.S. I love books, and buy them faster than I can read them! Always looking for recommendations…
