Stronger roots in arboriculture to support your projects

29 Jul 2024

With new government targets setting the stage for a potential development surge, we’ve strategically expanded our arboriculture team to ensure national coverage and enhanced senior guidance across the business to support our clients.

Rich and Naomi, our newest technical experts, alongside Jack Churchyard to support coordination, are ready to elevate our service across the UK.

Scaling up to serve you better

Anticipating a busy year ahead, we’re ramping up our efforts to meet your every need. We’ve heard your concerns about rising project demands and shifts in government and development policies. Rest assured, we’re prepared.

We’ve not only expanded our arboriculture team but also welcomed Lucy Jenkins to spearhead TG’s new GI (Green Infrastructure) workstream; the intersection between arboriculture, ecology and landscape

This strategic growth, combined with our ever-growing TG partner network and supported by our in-house resourcing team, positions us perfectly to handle the anticipated post-election development boom. We’re setting the stage to support you more efficiently and effectively, even as we get busier.

Naomi Charman - Arboriculture Associate

Meet our arboriculture recruits

Naomi Charman recently joined our London team. She has worked in the environmental sector since 2005.

She has a diverse background spanning from tree surgery to research and private consulting. Her work has taken her to Italy, Finland and South Africa, allowing her to work in both temperate and boreal woodlands.

At Tyler Grange, Naomi conducts arboricultural surveys in accordance with BS5837:2012, focusing on trees in relation to design, demolition and construction. She also prepares Arboricultural Impact Assessments (AIAs) and Arboricultural Method Statements (AMSs).

Naomi is a PTI (LANTRA) accredited tree inspector and VALID Validator. She understands how pathogens, fungi and pests affect tree physiology and can advise on management strategies to mitigate any risks to people or property. She has also worked with veteran trees and ancient woodland throughout her career and can advise on the protection and management of these irreplaceable habitats inside and outside of the planning system.

Naomi lives in Brighton with her husband and their three rescue dogs. Whether she’s lost in a good book, strolling with her dogs, or savouring delicious meals, Naomi fully embraces life beyond work.

Her mix of hands-on arboriculture experience and academic research boosts her work with the London team. She’s key in areas like Biodiversity Net Gain and green infrastructure. We’re excited to watch her deliver well-rounded, effective planning solutions for our clients.

Rich Middleton – Arboriculture Associate

Rich Middleton recently joined our South West team. Growing up on a dairy farm, Rich spent much of his youth outdoors, fostering his love for the environment. He pursued Geography at Exeter University and then transitioned into arboriculture.

Rich has built a diverse career starting with running his own small tree surgery business for a decade, where he honed his practical skills and mentored apprentices. His work has since evolved to focus on arboricultural consulting, particularly with veteran trees, in the planning and construction sectors.

At Tyler Grange, Rich covers the Exeter, Bristol, Cardiff and Cotswolds offices. He addresses all tree-related needs, bringing over 15 years of experience in both practical and consultancy aspects of arboriculture.

Outside of work, Rich loves staying active with triathlons and regular CrossFit sessions. He also enjoys walking and running with his dog on the local beaches and heathland.

Rich’s practical background in arboriculture, coupled with his consultancy experience, enhances his contributions to our team. We’ve seen an increase in enquiries relating to veteran tree support so Rich’s expertise in this area will be well utilised.
