Hit 10% the right way
Biodiversity Net Gain planned early, delivered together
We follow the mitigation hierarchy (avoid, minimise, restore, then compensate) so you protect the best habitats first. We shape layouts that hit the +10 % target early, satisfy the metric’s trading rules, secure off-site units if needed and provide planner-ready reports. It’s a complete BNG service, from concept to final sign-off.
Planning peace of mind
Avoid redesigns by meeting +10% and satisfying the metric’s trading rules.
Clear data-led decisions
See how design choices affect outcomes with real data from the metric’s output and trading rule results.
Make the most of the site
We aim to pack in as much of the right habitat in the right place, on site, while protecting the best bits first.
Support beyond sign off
Long-term monitoring keeps your BNG on track for at least 30 years. We prepare your Habitat Management and Monitoring Plan (HMMP).
What is Biodiversity Net Gain (BNG)?
Biodiversity Net Gain (BNG) means leaving nature better off than you found it. Under the Environment Act new schemes in England now may now need to deliver at least a 10% uplift in habitat value before planners will give planning approval. That gain is measured with a DEFRA metric, so the numbers are clear and the goal posts are transparent.
It's the law
From February 2024 most projects must hit the 10 % target or face delays, redesigns or refusal. Small sites now apply too.
It drives better design
Thinking about BNG early pushes teams to protect good habitats first, then build in new ones that work for wildlife and align with local priorities.
It pays back
Healthier ecosystems cut flood risk, boost air quality and give communities greener places to enjoy. Planning hurdles become real project value.
What gets approval (and how we deliver it)
1. Start early
We bring ecology, landscape and arboriculture in from concept. Biodiversity Net Gain is built in, not bolted on.
2. Baseline the site
Our ecologists map every habitat and its condition. That baseline sets your baseline biodiversity unit score and shows what to protect first.
3. Run the numbers to the rules
We test options in the DEFRA metric and design to satisfy the trading rules (type and distinctiveness line up). You can hit +10% and still miss planning if those rules are not satisfied.
4. Design as one team
Design layouts follow the mitigation hierarchy (avoid, minimise, restore, then compensate). High-value habitats are protected first.
5. On-site first, off-site when it’s needed
We maximise on-site gains. If off-site units are needed, we help source secure units from reputable providers and handle registration.
6. Get submission-ready
Planning-friendly reports and management plans. No nasty surprises at sign-off.
7. Deliver and manage
We stay involved during construction and set simple triggers you can follow (when to mow, when to seed, what to do if results slip). HMMP prepared to meet the 30-year requirement.
Secure your 10% BNG
We make Biodiversity Net Gain feel less like a hurdle and more like a chance to build better. If you’re planning a project, we’re ready to help you sort the BNG from day one. Speak to us early to avoid redesigns and delays.
