Key objectives

Environmental Enhancement: The project delivered biodiversity net gain through native planting, habitat creation, and wildlife features such as bat and bird boxes, supported by long-term monitoring and compliance with planning conditions

Community Engagement: Community engagement focused on addressing local concerns about visual impact by updating the soft landscape proposals and designing a bund planting strategy, improving visual amenity for nearby residents.

Project Execution

Landscape Planning: Tyler Grange’s landscape team delivered a detailed Landscape and Ecological Management Plan (LEMP) and associated planting proposals whilst working closely with ecology and planning teams to integrate biodiversity enhancements and discharge planning conditions, ensuring compliance with Condition 13 of the planning consent Ecology and Arboriculture: Detailed ecological and arboricultural assessments were conducted to inform the planning process and ensure the protection and enhancement of local biodiversity. Consultation and Planning: The project team engaged in extensive consultations with decision-makers and the public to secure planning consent and visual amenity.

Challenges

Ecological and Arboricultural Constraints: The site contained trees and habitats that needed protection under local planning policies (CG1 and CG3). This meant balancing development needs with safeguarding biodiversity, avoiding loss of irreplaceable habitats, and implementing compensatory planting strategies

Planning and Design Complexity: Meeting planning conditions required multiple updates to surveys and management plans, including tree retention checks, biodiversity enhancement measures, and landscape
proposals. Coordinating these elements while adhering to strict timelines added complexity to project delivery.
