Haven Lydstep Beach: Pembrokeshire

Arboriculture

Sector Leisure

Client Bourne Leisure Ltd

Lydstep Beach Village is surrounded by agricultural fields to the north, grassland to the east, cliffs, a beach and coastal paths to the southeast, woodland and grassland to the south, and woodland and a golf course to the west.

Lydstep Beach Village’s coastal location falls adjacent to a Special Area of Conservation (SAC), a Site of Special Scientific Interest (SSSI), an Important Plant Area, and NRW designated Priority Grassland and Priority Coastal Hard Cliff Habitats, making environmental sensitivity a key consideration throughout the project. Highly protected bats associated with the SAC (greater and lesser horsehoe) using the site for commuting and foraging are the major site constraint.

Ultimately, the project delivered robust evidence for planning approval, demonstrating environmental responsibility and best practice in arboriculture. It highlights the importance of early engagement, compliance with BS5837:2012, and strategic collaboration to achieve sustainable development outcomes in ecologically sensitive areas.
