Let your imagination run wild

11 Feb 2021

We’re now hiring for a Junior Product Designer or Product Engineer. Could that be you?

Come on in and take a look around...

At Tyler Grange, we like trying new things because the old way isn’t always the best way.

In our 10 years of trading, we have jumped at the opportunities to be a little different. We’re also aware that new things don’t always work, and we take value in learning from those experiences.

Our focus, as a company, is to help our clients make great places for both humans and nature. We achieve this through the use of various technologies and methods which are constantly changing. We believe that our team is very well placed to make a difference, and has a finger on the pulse of the natural environment.

Do you want to join us on our mission to create great places for both humans and nature?

Join us as we grow

A new journey

The R and D department is in its infancy, so this exciting opportunity would see you joining us at the start of our journey.

We aim to grow a team of Designer/Makers to work closely with our existing team of experts. This will involve going out into the field with our ecologists to study wildlife habitats and observe how existing products are used. Also brainstorming with the team to understand day to day challenges, plus learning animal behaviours and how existing processes can be improved.

Don’t worry though. You’ll be in great company and supported along the way. Our lead Maker, Chris Lovatt, who spent many years working at Dyson and has already joined forces with Tyler Grange to drive innovation.

We already have three research projects in the pipeline; we are looking at developing solutions to support our survey work in the field and creating products which can improve the biodiversity of everyday spaces.

Are you what we've been looking for?

We are looking for an enthusiastic designer who is keen to get ‘hands-on’ and work to develop ideas in 3D, not only using cad modelling with rapid prototyping but also traditional workshop skills. Some of the work will be outdoors in the natural environment, so interest in nature and the outdoors would be beneficial. This is a junior role and would suit someone who has recently left college or graduated from university.

The following competencies are desirable:

  • Clear verbal and written communication skills and 2D sketching ability
  • Basic knowledge of a proprietary CAD modelling package, ie Solidworks, Rhino etc
  • An understanding of rapid prototyping, 3d printing, laser cutting or cnc machining
  • Workshop training on machine tools, ie bandsaw, pillar drill, lathe and milling machine
  • An interest in wildlife, nature and the natural environment

The role will be very hands-on, helping to drive projects from concept to completion with the support and advice from experts. This is a fantastic opportunity to put your skills into practice, realising physical prototypes and products.

But what's life like at Tyler Grange?

Build a better world

We balance hard work with our values, which are at the core of everything we do. These values have been instrumental in helping us attract the right people to our business. Diverse team members, clients, partners and suppliers who respect, trust and care about each other.

Because of them, we’ve stood the test of time and continue to achieve our purpose: to build a better world for people, communities and the environment.
